The [History of Posters]

The invention of posters began in 1796 by a German name Johann Alios Senefelder. (Nov 6, 1771-Feb 26, 1836). Then Europe expanded the advertising world of posters in the 1890s. Shakespeare used posters to advertise his world famous plays. A French painter by the name of Jules Chéret (May 31, 1836-Sep 23, 1932), who is known as the father of advertisement placards, was a demanding artist because of his impeccable designs that he created for famous theaters such as the Eldorado, the Olympia, and the Moulin Rouge.Chéret was also called the “father of the women’s liberation” because it expressed women that were in high spirits and dressed classy instead of expressing them as depressed and dressed for labor. His studies that he has done at the École Nationale de Dessin has allowed Chéret to explore other designs and techniques of design.

A French painter by the name of Jules Chéret (May 31, 1836-Sep 23, 1932), who is commonly known as the father of advertisement placards, was a demanding artist because of his impeccable designs. He created designs for famous theaters such as the Eldorado, the Olympia, and the Moulin Rouge.

In Europe, artists were inspired and developed unique styles that would revolutionize the world of poster designs. Everything was advertised in Europe during the 1980s. The MaMaîtres de l’Affiche, or the Master of the Arts is a collection of pieces of artworks that was started by Chéret in 1895. It included artists like Henri de Toulouce-Lautrec and Théophile Alexandre Steinlen. This period of time is important because the publication of the significant art helped to introduce the world into posters and its wonderful and glorious creations. Some of the Art Nouveau style artists like Eugéne Grasset and Alphonse Mucha was also inspired by the poster styles. Europe is more creative in design than America because America did not have many influential artists to help them in the advertising world.

One American artist is David Lance Goines. He used his print shop that he founded to publish his artwork as well as his books. Majority of Goines works are placed in museums in major areas such as in California, Washington DC, New York, and Paris.

Europe is known to have the greatest artists in the world. Some of these artists include big names like Lucien Achille Mauzan, Etienne Maurice Firmimn Bouisset, Paul Colin, and Albert Guiiiaume. There are a hand full of artists that have influenced the revolution of the poster and they still continuing that today.

My Boondocks [Graffiti] Drawing!

I know what you thinking. This has nothing to do with computer graphics. Yes I know that. I just to take the chance and use this blog to post some of my drawings. Plus this can be a graphic design. I will just have to rework it on Adobe Illustrator to make it a graphic design. Just to make a clarification, I am NOT the originator of this design. I got it somewhere off the internet and redrew it. It says "Boondocks" just so you didn't know. I like this design because not only it's very neat and creative but it also represents my love for the comic and the tv show "The Boondocks". My family and friends how much I love that show! For this to be my first graffiti drawing ever, I must say that I did really good and I am very proud of it.

Happy Birthday [Greeting Card] For A Sweet Girl!

Isn't it pretty? My aunt gave me the card on my 15th birthday. What I love about the card is the image, the color, the texture, and the use of the type. I think that this particular type was chosen because it matches the hair of the girl. The glitter on the card (might not be seen) adds a beautiful to the card. I loved the card so much that I hung it up on my wall. This card is specifically designed for young audiences. I think that this is one of the many types of greeting cards that I find very attractive.

Ipod: Nothing But [Urban Typography]

Everybody knows Ipod. Even without the type, you will be able to recognize that the advertisement is for Ipod. Some times advertisements do not have to have a lot of text to make a point about what they are advertising. In this advertisement Ipod does not use a lot of typography because it will take away from the image. I found this image off of someone else's blog site. The point of the design is to attract the young audience which includes people ages 20 through 30 and possible through 40.

Jazzy [Neon] Sign!

I was able to find this image on Google.com. When I first look at the sign, I immediately noticed the saxophone. Then I realized that the saxophone was the letter "J" in the word jazz. I chose this saxophone because not only it was attractive but it reminded me of my cousin who plays the saxophone. The type used on the sign shows to me that the lounge is classy and that you will feel mellow and relaxed.

[Nature/ManMade] Can You Find The Hidden Letters?

"Why am I looking at a tree?", is what you are thinking right now. Am I wrong? Well, the tree actually has a couple of letters hidden in it. You will be able to see the letters Y, H, X, D, and A. At least, these were the ones that I could see. I took this picture outside off my house.

[Hand Paint Typography] Sign

It's not exactly hand paint typography but it sort of is in a way. Well...acually I think that the only word that is an example of hand paint typography is the word "Only". Because the sign is located in the rusted locker room, it shows that the sign was made for back in the day. The whole sign could be considered as hand paint. This is because the first three lines are in fine print and the last line is in cursive writing. I found this image on Google.com.

Silly Rabbit! Trix R 4 Kids! [Fun]

Silly Rabbit! To the media world of art, the phrase "Silly Rabbit! Trix Are For Kids!" is well known. As for the box, kids are very attracted to the fruity colors and the silly rabbit. This makes kids want to have this cereal. I found this image on Google.com. This design is a productive advertising design to attract customers. The design is considered as a fun design because when you look at the objects and colors it allows you to feel happy un like some cereal boxes such as Cheerios. I am a personal fan of Trix because the cereal is good and the box is always attractive to look at. The only thing I disapprove of is the price to buy Trix!

Black History Month [Event Poster] From 2004

"Attention, Attention! Black History Month for 2004 has some major announcements to make!". This is the message that I receive when I look at this event poster. I love how the colors are used together so that it do not look tacky. I love the touch of the fist. To me this symbolizes that we as people need to take a stand for our freedom and to remember that we need to continue to honor those who fought for our freedom. I think that the font of the poster is to attract the young audience but the red background is to attract EVERY audience. I found this image on Google.com.

ExaMpLe oF a CLassY noT tRaShY [Business Card]

This is a business card for a music production company that my mother have received from a friend. I like how the border is neatly designed and that it is not something over the top. The font is very classy and professional. Another reason why I find this business appealing because it contains the color blue, that happens to be my favorite color! As a bonus sign, the musical notes show that the business is all about music. So do not think that this card is advertising a law firm!

OnlY AkaDemiKs [Corporate ID]

"What is Akademiks?" Akademics is a major clothing brand that is very popular in the hip hop community. Because I like the designs, I chose to talk about their ID logo. The color choices that were used in this logo is simple but it's not plain and boring. I find that the "a" was designed neatly. Overall the logo is very nice and I would proudly wear the logo on a t-shirt. I found this image on Google.com.

Miss Jackson on VIBE's [Magazine Cover]!!!

Ms. Janet Jackson is very pretty woman so it's is no surprise to me that the cover of this magazine looks very good. Even though her picture is very dominant you can still manage to read the font. I think that VIBE magazine chose to make Janet's picture dominant because they want the readers to be attracted to it. Before you say I am a homo (which I am NOT), I am a fan of Janet. That is the main reason to why I chose this magazine cover. The type stands out in a way that do not make it hard to read but it do not take away from Janet's photo. I found this cover from NewsCom.com

MacBook PRO's SL33K [PackAge DesIgN]

The MacBook PRO is a product that is made by Apple. So you should know that their packages do not need to be extravegant with designs. I like Apple designs and their advertising because they keep it simple. I notice that in all of their designs, there are three main elements. They are the product itself, the name of the product, and their logo which is the Apple. This design is suitable for classy business people. I am attracted to Apple because they are simple but their products are high quality just like their designs. I found this image on Google.com.
