The invention of posters began in 1796 by a German name Johann Alios Senefelder. (Nov 6, 1771-Feb 26, 1836). Then Europe expanded the advertising world of posters in the 1890s. Shakespeare used posters to advertise his world famous plays. A French painter by the name of Jules Chéret (May 31, 1836-Sep 23, 1932), who is known as the father of advertisement placards, was a demanding artist because of his impeccable designs that he created for famous theaters such as the Eldorado, the Olympia, and the Moulin Rouge.Chéret was also called the “father of the women’s liberation” because it expressed women that were in high spirits and dressed classy instead of expressing them as depressed and dressed for labor. His studies that he has done at the École Nationale de Dessin has allowed Chéret to explore other designs and techniques of design.

In Europe, artists were inspired and developed unique styles that would revolutionize the world of poster designs. Everything was advertised in Europe during the 1980s. The MaMaîtres de l’Affiche, or the Master of the Arts is a collection of pieces of artworks that was started by Chéret in 1895. It included artists like Henri de Toulouce-Lautrec and Théophile Alexandre Steinlen. This period of time is important because the publication of the significant art helped to introduce the world into posters and its wonderful and glorious creations. Some of the Art Nouveau style artists like Eugéne Grasset and Alphonse Mucha was also inspired by the poster styles. Europe is more creative in design than America because America did not have many influential artists to help them in the advertising world.
One American artist is David Lance Goines. He used his print shop that he founded to publish his artwork as well as his books. Majority of Goines works are placed in museums in major areas such as in California, Washington DC, New York, and Paris.
Europe is known to have the greatest artists in the world. Some of these artists include big names like Lucien Achille Mauzan, Etienne Maurice Firmimn Bouisset, Paul Colin, and Albert Guiiiaume. There are a hand full of artists that have influenced the revolution of the poster and they still continuing that today.
